2nd Annual Holiday Party!

Dear ANAHATA family,
In this holiday season, we wanted to write and share with you a little bit about what we've been up to, as well as to let you know about our upcoming shows in the new year.  We are so appreciative of your support.  We could not do any of this without your love and encouragement.
It has been a busy year and a year full of changes for our company!  We began the year by performing at the Joyce SoHo during the APAP conference in January 2011; the Cool NY Festival; and the Women in Dance Festival, a 6 month long choreographic investigation culminating with a performance at the Ailey CitiGroup Theater.  In May, we premiered our first non site-specific evening length concert, REVERIE, at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance in New York City.  It was a huge accomplishment for Lauren and I, along with our dancers, and we feel so lucky to have realized a life goal at this stage in our lives.
This summer, while four of our dancers performed in the In-Sight Suite Summer Festival, Natalie traveled to Budapest, Hungary, where she presented a workshop detailing her use of Language of Dance in her choreographic process at the International Conference for Kinetography/Laban.  During the summer also, Lauren studied reinforced Motor Function and MT Modern Technique with Sean McCloud.  She is now certified to teach this technique.
After such a busy summer, they chose to slow down and refocus their energy.  The company has spent the last few months tearing apart a piece of choreography, "Flores Olvidado", and completely restructuring it.  You can see the results in two different festivals in January!  The company has also returned to its site specific focus with a piece of repertory that visually represents ocean waves and can be performed both on the proscenium stage as well as on a sandy beach.

It has been delightful sharing our 2011 season with you and we look forward to seeing you in 2012!  Don't miss the following opportunities to see ANAHATA right away in the new year!

Artistic Director Natalie Teichmann presents at ICKL

This summer, Artistic Director Natalie Teichmann travelled to Budapest, Hungary for the International Conference of Kinetography/Laban.  There, she gave a workshop that explored her use of the Language of Dance as a part of her creative process with ANAHATA Dance.  She felt honored to have Anne Hutchinson Guest and Tina Curran in attendance at her presentation.  Pictured above, Natalie is demonstrating how to read the LOD notation in order to facilitate a clear warm-up and movement experiment.

In-Sight Suite Summer Festival

July 28 - 31, 2011

Natalia Duong, Liza Brink, and Laura Colon danced in the In-Sight Suite Summer Festival in Queens, NY.  They depicted "Apres Moi" in a very real, meaningful way and we were so honored to have them perform.

Women in Dance Series Studio Showing

The first in a series of once/month workshops, Flores Olvidado was shown at DANY studios to an audience of influential choreographers, dance enthusiasts, and the general public.  Choreographer Natalie Teichmann received much feedback and will continue to receive suggestions related to choreography, the business of running a dance company, and other advice until the culmination of a performance at the Ailey CitiGroup Theater in December of this year.
